Slow Projects and Intermittent Blogger's Guilt

I hate it when I don't post anything here for more than a week but I suppose that's the nature of sewing blogging. Whenever you finish a project, that's when you blog and if you don't finish anything for a week or two...

I feel like I need to come up with an idea for a weekly blog series but, 1, I haven't thought of anything that would be either entertaining or informative and 2, I'm afraid I would have trouble being consistent. Actually I do have what I think is a pretty good idea for a limited series - just three or four posts. I'm going to take some pictures and search for some old pictures and start that soon(ish)

For the past two (going on three I think) weeks I have been working on a Granville shirt. It's actually going well, so I don't know why I'm not getting it done faster. I have been doing one little step at a time and then stopping and sometimes I go back to it the next day and sometimes it ends up being two days. There are so many things I want to get done, I'm tempted to put it aside for a while and start something else but I have always had this fear of not finishing things. I feel like have to finish each thing before I move on to the next.

So, what are you working on? Do you do one thing at time or do you work on multiple projects at once? How do you motivate yourself when you feel stuck?

  1. That's what I like about the Sunday Sevens posts; they keep you from wandering away from your blog because you haven't finished anything recently (a pretty common occurrence for me). Another blog series that I like is called Weekly Small Pleasures (sample post here: https://wordpress.com/read/post/feed/24652829/844711826). A good way to focus on the positive if that's something you feel like you might find useful.

I'm finding it hard to stick to one project at the moment, but maybe that isn't such a bad thing; it means I can work on whatever is interesting to me at the moment. On the other hand, it does give me a feeling like I never finish anything. I had planned to finish my BOM this week but I've been procrastinating on it because I'm nervous about doing setting triangles for the first time--feeling intimidated by a step is what always gets me stuck. I'll wait for a moment when I'm feeling a little more confident, then I'll read the instructions again and give it a try. I often do an easier, slightly less intimidating thing, then use the sense of confidence earned from that to push me on to the next thing.

    1. That sounds a lot like me and that's my problem right now - new pattern and it's telling me to do some things that are different from the way I usually do them so I keep procrastinating. I'm to the point though were everything is downhill from here and yesterday I was thinking I would work on it a lot today, maybe even finish but it turns out I'm not in the mood for sewing today. I could force myself but I have to remind myself this is a hobby, not a job, and I can do it anytime I feel like. Although I feel like I do need to keep sewing regularly to justify all the fabric I keep buying.
